January 6th freak-out exposes hypocrisy of American empire.
The hypocrisy of Washington's freak out over January 6th.
On the anniversary of January 6th, Washington D.C. politicians commemorated the right-wing riots that took place last year where Trump supporters stormed the Capitol because they falsely believed the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump. This event has had non-stop media coverage in the mainstream media and focus from Washington D.C. politicians such as Nancy Pelosi who introduced the cast of the musical play, Hamilton, to commemorate January 6th.
What many do not know is that these same Washington D.C. politicians and mainstream media have supported far more dangerous right-wing insurrectionists in official enemy countries in Latin America such as Nicaragua and Venezuela. Take for example Nicaragua where the U.S. empire has long wanted to overthrow the government led by Sandanista, Daniel Ortega. Scholar Benjamin Waddell who is a critic of the Ortega government reported that the United States government led to an attempted insurrection in Nicaragua. In the report, he explained that the United States government’s National Endowment for Democracy spent $4.1 million dollars funding opposition groups in Nicaragua between 2014 and 2017. The report shows that in 2017 the NED $86,000 to anonymous groups that they claimed was to foster a generation of “democratic youth leaders”. This money laid the groundwork for an attempted insurrection in 2018 where, as Nicaragua-based journalist John Perry reported public buildings and houses of government supporters were burned down and police were tortured and killed. An extremely disturbing video posted on youtube titled “Sandinistas are Tortured Everyday” shows eight minutes of people being tortured by these insurrectionists because they were sympathetic to the Sandinista government. Leonel Morales a student protest leader who denounced the violent insurrection was kidnapped by the coup leaders who shot him in the face stabbed him in the throat and threw him in a ditch to die.
The United States government has supported similar insurrectionists in Venezuela who were also funded by the National Endowment for Democracy. These violent protests led to at least 23 people being burned alive mainly working-class and Afro-Venezuelans. These burnings were usually based on class and race as the upper-class protestors assumed lower class and minority Venzueans were Chavista and were targeted for it. In one instance a 21-year-old black man, Orlando Jose Figuera was burned alive because protestors thought he was Chavista based on his skin color. Journalist Abby Martin who reported on the ground in Venezuela reported that 61 people were killed by opposition violence mostly through murders and political assassinations. Abby reported that many opposition members threatened to kill her for her reporting specifically threatening to “lynch” her. She also reported that a TELEsur journalist was shot in the back by opposition protestors and that a crew of journalists were doused with gasoline and told to leave with the threat of being burned. She also reported that opposition protestors have burned down hospitals, clinics, the childhood home of Hugo Chavez, maternity clinics, cultural centers, and food distributions centers.
Similar to Russigate, Washinton’s freakout over January 6th has been almost comical to me as the United States has supported far worse insurrectionists in official enemy countries. If January 6th had happened in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela it would be portrayed as a peaceful pro-democracy protest and the Q Shaman would be recognized as the “interim president” of the United States. What I reported does not even get into even more large-scale regime-change operations such as the dirty war in Syria where the C.I.A. funded, armed and trained Jihadists rebels to try to overthrow the government. It is hard to feel bad for Washinton D.C. politicians as they have armed and funded far more dangerous and violent far-right-insurrectionist across the world.
